This is Nina Gualinga, a Kichwa woman from the Amazon in Ecuador. She is a daughter of the indigenous uprising of 1992 in Quito in which indigenous people from the Amazon demanded legal recognition of their to the claim to their ancestral lands. Her mother marched in the streets and has continued this struggle for indigenous self-determination that
is rooted in protecting the land. She has been a leader in the struggle against the oil industry and the environmental destruction they have caused in the Amazon on indigenous peoples land. Recently she traveled to Standing Rock to express solidarity from the people of Sarayaku with those standing against the Dakota Access Pipeline, demonstrating the continental movement to protect land and life. #DignidadRebelde #NinaGualinga #pueblosindigenasenresistencia #noDAPL
