As the economic crisis increases throughout Florida, and hundreds of thousands of Floridians are still waiting for their unemployment checks, many families are suffering from lack of resources and have to visit food pantries and community mutual aid resources to access food.
On May 1st, as millions of families hit the deadline to pay rent or their mortgages, the New Florida Majority (NewFM), will distribute 900 gift cards for food assistance to families who are struggling to survive during the pandemic.
According to New Florida Majority’s latest community survey that reached over 20,000 people, at least 1 in every 5 Floridians reported not having any food or being concerned about food insecurity.

New Florida Majority @newflmajority , Dream Defenders @thedreamdefenders and Organize Florida @organizeflorida organizers will also deliver a poster by artist Melanie Cervantes (ME)inviting Floridians to hold Governor Ron DeSantis for this crisis, and will invite people to sign a petition asking Governor Ron De Santis to #CutTheChecks.

The New Florida Majority (NewFM) and partner organizations have launched a website floridacoronaaction.org to provide resources, assistance, and information to Floridians amid the pandemic.
